Our Training Philosophy

Our training style is very relationship based and we understand that motivation is the key to success with dogs. There are 2 sides to motivation: teaching your dog what TO do and teaching them what NOT to do.

We use positive reinforcement in the form of treats, food, play and affection to teach obedience and encourage dogs to do the right behavior (sit on command, come when called). By doing many repetitions, we teach the dog that doing the correct behavior earns a reward and is fun. This helps build engagement with your dog and shows them you are fun and exciting.

That’s teaching your dog what TO do. There is also teaching your dog what NOT to do and there needs to be a balance between the two.

Dogs have a mind of their own and often they get distracted, ignore us or form bad habits. When it comes to training things like recall (come when called) it's very important that our dog doesn’t ignore us because it could quickly turn into a dangerous situation. This is where we start to add consequences for not listening when we know they know what we are asking.

We use specialized tools like slip leads, prong collars, and remote collars to condition these consequences. We have trained with these tools for years and are very experienced in how to condition them properly and safely to dogs. When it comes to life and death, you don’t want you dog only listening when they feel like it.

The bottom line: We help you create a strong relationship with your dog based on balance and a keen understanding of how dogs communicate. After working with hundreds of dogs and helping solve a wide variety of issues, we have learned to understand dogs and how to help other owners understand their dogs better too.

Success Stories

Ace’s Story - 6 Week Aggression Rehab Board & Train

Ace was referred to us after biting another trainer. He would lash out when he got overstimulated and even though he’s a small package, he has plenty of power and unfortunately that made him dangerous. We worked with Ace over 6 weeks and changed his outlook on life and taught him better coping skills to make him safer.

I can’t thank them enough for a job well done with my baby Ace! Before he went to training, every time visitors came over I would have to put him in the kennel because he would growl or bark at them. He was very unpredictable with strangers! I had visitors come over for Mother’s Day and Ace amazed me!! He was well behave! He didn’t bark or growl. He followed all commands!! He was able to sit outside with everyone. I am one happy mom!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾

Dodger’s Story - Private Lessons

Dodger is a Bernedoodle who loved to go everywhere with his family but didn’t love listening. Anytime he was off leash he would play catch me if you can and often ran across the baseball fields of his kids games. Anytime he was on leash he would pull so hard he nearly crashed one of his kids into tree. It was Dodger’s family dream to be able to walk him nicely on leash and have him off leash without worrying about getting him back.

After Dodger tried to join Kate’s softball team……we realized we needed some training for our 11 month old bernedoodle.

He’s had two (I’ll say that one more time - TWO) training lessons with Cari Brooks and the difference has been unbelievable.  He was a dog that pulled on the lease, sniffed every bush, and was basically NO fun to walk - actually if I’m being honest he walked me!  Our kids could no longer walk him - too dangerous.  If he saw anything he would bolt towards it.  NOW…he’s a dog that pays attention to me….he doesn’t pull.  He stays by my side.  He knows ‘place’ and will sit in a designated area until we tell him to ‘break’.  I never thought it was possible!

Zorro’s Story - 2 week Board & Train

Zorro’s owners found us through our shared love of Dobermans. We watched Zorro when he just just a puppy and helped post his ears. When he was older, he came back for training and rocked our Advanced Off Leash Board & Train.

Two Dobermans sitting together

Cari and her team did an amazing job with our 6 month old Doberman. Zorro was stubborn and did what he wanted to around the house (jumping on people, counter-surfing, stealing shoes/clothes/pillows/blankets, and refusing to stay on place or go in his crate. After his board and train he complies with all his trained commands and has learned our house isn't his personal playground to take what he wants. We couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Carrie and her team were also available when we fell behind on trimming his nails and needed a refresher on the best approach.

Sentry’s Story - 2 week Board & Train

Sentry was a rambunctious young Malinios who needed direction and an outlet. This high drive breed is not for the faint of heart and his owners really stepped up. Sentry didn’t like to do anything he was told, he was on his own timeline and made his own choices. Unfortunately that made his hard to live with and a potential liability if his behavior escalated. We were able to give him the freedom of off leash reliability and create a communication system both him and his owners could master.

Cari and her crew are absolutely amazing!! I truly don’t know how they transformed my 7 month Mal into such a well behaved, obedient dog in just 2 weeks. My entire extended family and friends are just as impressed with what a great dog he is now. Best money spent! Thank you!!
