Cari Brooks

Head Trainer and Owner

I got my start working with dogs professionally in college. I worked for a boarding facility out in the country where I was in charge of managing the daycare and boarding dogs who all got to run and play in a big open field. I learned a lot about how to read body language and how and when to step in to keep the peace. The lessons I learned there are invaluable to the work I do today. After that, I went on to work at a few other daycares, continuing to fine tune my skills and learn everything I could about dogs. I finally took the step to becoming a trainer by starting out with a large training company. They sent me to training and I learned their process and began teaching lessons. Eventually, after relocating and working for a few more trainers, I decided it was time to set out on my own.

I started Brooks K9 Solutions with the goal of taking everything I had learned along the way and putting it into helping as many owners and their dogs as I could. I especially love to be able to give so many dogs the freedom of being off leash. I have helped countless people solve major behavioral issues just by helping them renew their relationship with their dog. Everyone should be able to enjoy their dogs without having to worry about things like reactivity, aggression, or fear.

My training philosophy is balance through relationship building and motivation. I believe dogs are incredible and each deserve to reach their full potential. My job is to help bridge the gap in communication between owners and their dogs so they can build a stronger relationship. Everything in dog training is based on motivation, either to do the right thing or to not do the wrong thing. I help owners teach their dog new behaviors as well as effectively stop unwanted behaviors so they can live their best lives with their dogs.

I am firm believer that dogs are unique and each one needs a unique training approach which is why I always keep myself open to new ideas and training techniques. I like to keep my training toolbox open and use a wide variety of training tools. Along with positive reinforcement training, I also use pressure and release training that I learned training horses. I teach dogs how to yield to pressure in order to have them walk nicely on a leash and be able to have off leash freedom with a remote collar. Once dogs understand the behaviors we are teaching with rewards and understand how to yield to pressure, we are able to create a solid communication system that allows dogs to learn new things and live up to their fullest potential with us. Teaching dogs is only half the equation though, I also enjoy teaching owners how to establish and use this communication system with their dogs as well. Each owner and dog is unique and I strive to create a unique and effective training experience for both.

I have helped owners and dogs work through just about any training situation you could think of and I enjoy the problem solving that comes with finding unique solutions for each dog and owner.
